CNBC Africa: A milestone in African television broadcasting

When a CNBC Channel was planned for Africa’s rapidly growing business community, DMA-Media was the first stop for launch support. In May 2007, our associate, Gary Rogers, flew out to Johannesburg to make sure the launch of the continent’s first 24-hour international business channel was smooth and on time.

Gary knew what was needed because he’d also launched CNBC Pakistan.

The channel was launched on June 1, 2007 and set out to offer a unique global perspective from an African platform on African business and African business markets. The first show was a special interview with President Thabo Mbeki in front of a live audience.

CNBC’s market and news programming combines real-time digital graphics with an expert global team. Our international experience helped the local managers to get the most from their resources.

The channel broadcasts local content from the main studio in Sandton Johannesburg and has bureaux in Lagos, Abuja, Nairobi and Cape Town. CNBC African chairman, Zafar Siddiqi, called it a ‘milestone in African television broadcasting’.
